Jan 30, 2018 (newstodate): Exports of Norwegian fresh salmon to China are rapidly gaining momentum from the start of this year.
The latest weekly statistics from Norway's Seafood Council show a total of 557 tonnes of salmon for China in this year's third week, bringing the total to 1,045 tonnes in the first three weeks of 2018, in addition to another 309 tonnes of salmon to Hong Kong in week 3, and a total of 826 tonnes in the first three weeks.
Volumes lifted in week 3 alone are thus almost equal to those lifted during the first two week of the year - 1,871 tonnes in week 3, against 1,014 tonnes in weeks 1 and 2.
The rising export volumes to China call for the introduction of a dedicated direct freighter service from Oslo to China.
In 2017, the total volume of Norwegian fresh salmon to China landed at 3,984 tonnes, only about twice the volume lifted in three weeks in 2018 alone.
