Jan 25, 2018 (newstodate): The Icelandic ACMI provider Air Atlanta Icelandic looks back at another good year in business and will continue its sustained growth in aircraft fleet through 2018 as well.
-We are currently operating seven Boeing 747-400 for customers on long-term leases and plan to add one or two more aircraft this year, says Baldvin Hermannsson, Air Atlanta Icelandic VP Sales & Marketing.
-The aircraft type is still not decided and evaluations are ongoing. We are also operating one Airbus A340 on behalf of Air Madagascar while the Airbus A330-200 earlier placed with Saudia has been phased out for now.
-We are considering a future choice of Boeing 777 aircraft, and the question here is really about timing. It will definitely not happen in 2018, though.
-As for now, Boeing 747-400 is an ideal aircraft for us, but there are fewer and fewer aircraft in the market matching our requirements as we continue to renew our fleet.
-To manage risk, we are diversifying our customer portfolio with four new customers added in 2017, and our aircraft are now operating for two of these customers on routes between Europe and Africa.
-In the cargo market we are currently operating seven Boeing 747-400 freighters and plans to add two more in 2018. The cargo market has indeed been rising drastically over the last year and demand for freighter capacity is brisk. We hope this will augur a steady, long-term development and not be just a spike, and we remain dedicated to diversifying our customer portfolio to spread the risk.
-We basically take a conservative approach. We know the market and we are risk-averse! We have a certain pool of pilots and are not planning for any major expansion, adding three or four more aircraft to the fleets every year.
-But in the end I would says that growing to 18-19 aircraft over time would not be to over-stretch ourselves too much, says Mr Hermannsson.
