Jan 15, 2018 (newstodate): Asia is in the focus of Finnair that is today offering flights from Helsinki to 15 major Asian cities.
In the pipeline may be new Finnair flights to Malaysia, long considered a potential destination for Finnair.
At least, Finnair has met with Tourism Malaysia on January 12, 2018, to discuss the potential opening of a new direct non-stop route between Helsinki and Kuala Lumpur.
In 2006, Finnair planned to launch a service from Helsinki to Kuala Lumpur via Bangkok.
However, Finnair canceled the plan and switched the HelsinkiSingapore route to non-stop instead of operating via via Bangkok.
Another new market for Finnair would be Indonesia, sources say.
New routes will definitely be announced as Finnair takes in more long-haul capacity in the form of Airbus A350 aircraft, 11 of which have now been delivered with eight more to follow until 2023 under the existing order with Airbus.
