Jan 24, 2018 (newstodate): Lifting its cargo volumes to record-high levels in 2017, Denmark's Billund Airport is working to add new business potentials in 2018.
-The successful setup by Turkish Cargo of two weekly freighter rotations has proved that the catchment area of Billund Airport holds rich potentials and reaches well into also the North German area, says Jan Ditlevsen, Billund Airport VP Cargo.
-Long on our wishing-list has been a freighter service connecting to the Chinese market and much effort will be invested in turning this business case into reality. Billund Airport is located in the midst of Denmark's industrial and trade center, with many companies strong on international trade both import- and export-wise. And in both directions, China is a key market, boding well for a balanced freighter operation.
-Add to this that for instance Hamburg is only 4.5 hours away on un-congested highways, and Billund Airport also does not suffer from lack of slots as is increasingly the case at a growing number of continental airports, says Mr Ditlevsen.
The only Chinese carrier currently offering direct freighter services in the Danish market is China Cargo Airlines that is however said to pull out after the coming Chinese New Year period in February.
The carrier has been on-off between Copenhagen Airport and Shanghai since 2007, today offering three weekly Boeing 777F rotations.
