Jan 26, 2018 (newstodate): End of a long story: the US airline that never lifted, Baltia has now lost its license to operate the route between New York and St Petersburg!
The route authority was issued in 2009 and DOT expected that service would launch within the year to keep the authority active. That never happened...
Plans first aired as far back as in 1989 for direct non-stop Boeing 747 flights by Baltia Air Lines between New York JFK and St Petersburg even included later steps to add flights to a number of capital cities of Eastern Europe, including Moscow, Riga, Kiev, and Minsk.
After more than 25 years of preparation, Baltia Airlines was renamed US Global Airways in September 2017 and announced the take-over of Florida-based charter carrier Songbird Airways that has an own AOC, and the acquisition of one Boeing 737-400 on a lease contract with AerSale.
Now he project may safely be considered shelved.
