Jan 17, 2018 (newstodate): The Faroe Islands' Vagar Airport experienced a virtual boom in cargo volumes in 2017, reaching a growth by 35.4 percent, y-o-y.
A total of 660 tones of cargo was handled at the airport, in addition to 272 tonnes of mail which was also an increase by 10.4 percent.
In December 2017 alone, cargo volumes were up 123.3 percent to 96 tonnes.
The real lift-off in cargo volumes was provided by SAS that launched services from Copenhagen Airport to Vagar Airport on March 27, 2017, as the second provider alongside Atlantic Airways that was long alone in serving the Faroe Islands with flight connections.
