Sep 04, 2017 (newstodate): The Swedish/UK cargo carrier West Atlantic reports sound business from its five-year contract with Royal Mail that took effect from the start of this year. But it has not been without problems...
To meet the requirements of the contract, West Atlantic's fleet based at Coventry will eventually comprise nine Boeing 737-400 freighters and three British Aerospace ATP aircraft.
And the sourcing of six Boeing 737 freighters has been a problem, as the new Boeing 737 leased aircraft experienced significant delivery delays from lessors, incurring increased subcharter costs.
Also the company had to simultaneously support costs related to the aircraft delivery delays, such as compensation for pilots and engineers contributing to cost overruns, the company says in its latest Interim Report, H1 2017.
West Atlantic placed two additional Boeing 737-400 in operation in Q2/2017 and is now awaiting the final of the six Boeing 737-400 which are scheduled to be added to fully meet the commitment to Royal Mail.
