Sep 22, 2017 (newstodate): The arrival of a second carrier to offer scheduled services connecting the Faroe Islands and Denmark has made a significant impact on the Vagar Airport cargo statistics in 2017.
The first flight by SAS from Copenhagen to Vagar Airport was performed on March 27, 2017- and since then the monthly cargo volumes have risen.
In August 2017, a total of 58.3 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport, up 57.6 percent, y-o-y, and in the first eight months of this year the airport has thus handled 353.7 tonnes of cargo - an increase by 26.3 percent, y-o-y.
Since March, the growth in cargo volumes has consistently been with to-digits, boding well for 2017 full-year loads at Vagar Airport.
Mail volumes have also been increasing, totaling 166 tonnes during January-August 2017, up 14 percent.
