Sep 05, 2017 (newstodate): Air cargo through Sweden's Stockholm Arlanda Airport is growing in volumes, and Swedavia is about to make a thorough assesment of infrastructural requiements posed by this increase.
-We are indeed to strenghten our focus on air cargo again, says Bas van Goch, Swedavia General Manager Cargo.
-Since the construction in 2004/05 of a new terminal serving the integrators and the airfreight terminal opened in 2010 serving Spirit Air Cargo Handling, Arlanda Airport has seen little activity as to infrastructure dedicated to the air cargo industry.
-We are actually now going over the situation to assess the needs and requirements in infrastructure to cope with sustained growth in air cargo at the airport, and we expect to present our findings and solutions within only a few months, says Mr van Goch.
In addition to belly cargo on passenger aircraft, Arlanda is currently handling two weekly freighter operations by Turkish Cargo flying in from Helsinki and, from September 22, 2017, three wekly freigther operations by Korean Air Cargo.
Integrators DHL, UPS and FedEx are all operating at Stockholm Arlanda, and the airport is also seeing eight daily postal flights.
During the first half of this year, Stockholm Arlanda saw its cargo volumes up by 10.6 percent to 88,721 tonnes.
