Sep 05, 2017 (newstodate): South Korea wants more Trans-Siberian overflight rights over Russian territory.
At a meeting in Vladivostok on September 4, 2017, of the Russian-Korean Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation the issue was on the agenda.
The Korean delegation raised the issue of expanding commercial rights, including flights on the Trans-Siberian and Transpolar airlanes to allow the Korean carrier to operate more frequently and with shorter flying times on routes connecting South Korea and Western Europe.
-The parties agreed to hold bilateral consultations between the Russian and Korean aviation authorities before the end of this year, as well as on the joint implementation of projects for the development of transport and logistics infrastructure, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation notes on its website.
Not surprisingly, the Russian side has emphasized that an increase in South Korean rights will need to be balanced by similar benefits to the Russian carriers.
