Sep 14, 2017 (newstodate): Denmark's Copenhagen Airport is still the largest Scandinavian airport - but competitors are closing in...
In August 2017 a total of 2,776,367 passengers was handled at Copenhagen Airport, 2,556,481 passengers passed through Norway's Oslo Airport while another 2,506,449 passengers were handled at Sweden's Stockholm Airport.
Growth-wise, Copenhagen managed to increase by only one percent, y-o-y, while volumes at Oslo were up seven percent, and passenger volumes through Stockholm increased even more by nine percent compared to August 2016.
Behind the over-all figures are significant differences, however, reflecting the large proportion of transfer/transit traffic at Copenhagen, SAS' main hub in Scandinavia, and the relatively higher importance of domestic traffic in Norway and Sweden given the infrastructure of these markets.
Out of the total volume at Copenhagen Airport in August, 2,647,914 passengers were traveling on international routes, up 1.4 percent, while domestic traffic decreased by 7.6 percent to 218,453 passengers.
In Norway, 1,560,702 passengers were on international routes, up 9,2 percent while domestic passenger volumes were also up by 3.7 percent to 995,879.
In Sweden, the volumes of passengers on international flights increased by 10 percent to 2,066,838 and passsengers on domestic flights also increased by six percent to 439,611.
