Sep 12, 2017 (newstodate): PostNord Norway is to rein in its services in 2018, leading to less demand for postal flights after January 1, 2018.
Following a tender process for postal flights completed in February 2015, the UK/Swedish cargo carrier West Atlantic emerged as the winner to be operating postal flights in Norway during the contract period starting August 2015 and expiring in July 2020.
Now, PostNord Norway has confirmed that their network from start of 2018 will comprise a smaller operation compared to today's operation by West Atlantic.
-We are working with Norwegian mail to make this transition smooth. Traditional postal traffic continues to decrease, and Norwegian Mail is no longer mandated to deliver next day to all destinations, thus leading to a smaller air network, West Atlantic says in its H1 2017 Interim Report.
The PostNord Norway mail flights network in 2018 will thus reduce West Atlantic's operations from eight to three aircraft.
West Atlantic is therefore to further stress the focus on its turboprop freighter business with a fleet now comprising 37 ATP freighters of which 22 are in service while 15 are standing idle.
