Sep 22 ,2017 (newstodate): The new Russian regional carrier Azimut Airlines has high ambitions for spreading its wings unto international routes.
According to Russian legislation, the carrier must prove its operational capability on domestic flights for two years before international flights can be operated.
The carrier has now confirmed that it will indeed go international within two years and is now building up a fleet of Superjet 100 aircraft, based at the new green-field airport named Rostov-on-Don Platov Airport currently under construction for the 2018 World Cup and aiming for a role in connecting flights between Asia, the CIS and Europe.
Azimut Airlines is now operating flights from Rostov-on-Don to Moscow and from Moscow to Omsk, and in the next two months flights from Rostov-on-Don to St Petersburg, Samara and Novosibirsk, and from Krasnodar to St Petersburg will be added.
The carrier will take delivery of eight Superjet 100 aircraft, with four already in service and the remainder to follow until April 2018, and a further batch of eight aircraft are being negotiated with the leasing companies.
