Sep 01, 2017 (newstodate): The Latvian charter and ACMI carrier SmartLynx is still investigating potentials for expanding business into new markets.
The effort is driven by various considerations, but one is the seasonal imbalance in demand in the European market for charter operations, peaking in the summer schedule while receding in winter.
-All our aircraft are still on contracts with tour operators and other customers and this will remain so till the end of the summer season in September and October, says Ilva Priedniece, SmartLynx Airlines PR and Marketing Manager.
-After that we will publish a release on the performance so far in 2017 and unveil some of the decisions concerning the winter season.
-But in June 2017 we did announce that we are considering launch of flights to Cambodia, India, the Philippines and Malaysia, as well as entering the North American and Canadian markets. Our vision is to offer flights from Canada to Latin America and the Caribbean islands, as was also detailed in the release.
-These projects require much research and effort, and our management is working hard to ascertain the potentials and possibilities in talks with potential new clients. Yet, nothing has been finalized yet, says Ms Priedniece.
In the fleet of Riga Airport-based SmartLynx Airlines, including its Estonian subsidiary, now are 12 Airbus A320 aircraft and one A321, and plans are to take delivery of one more A321 aircraft before the end of 2017.
By 2018 the total number of aircraft will go further up to a total of 18.
