Sep 11, 2017 (newstodate): Traffic is now returning to normal at Kazakhstan's Astana Airport after the hectic days of the EXPO-2017 that closed on September 10, 2017.
During the period starting from the opening of the exposition on June 10, the airport has seen its passenger volumes up to 1.5 million, of which 830,000 passengers were flying on domestic routes while more than 600,000 passengers were international.
The increase in air passenger traffic on domestic routes was up by 88 percent, while traffic by international flights increased another 30 percent.
Catering to the handling of international air travellers, a new Terminal T2 was opened in June 2017 increasing the airport's total handling capacity to 7,5 mio passengers per year.
