Aug 31, 2017 (newstodate): Copenhagen Airport has obtained the green light from the Municipality to go ahead with plans for an Airport Business Park project.
With the adoption of the local development plan, Copenhagen Airport can now invite Danish and foreign companies to develop an Airport Business Park on a 150,000 sq.m. area bordering on the Oeresund Sound and connected to the railway system as well as roads and the bridge to Sweden.
High ambitions held by the airport management comprise the vision of Copenhagen Airport becoming a "Northern European air cargo hub" seeing air cargo through-put from currently around 500,000 to one million tonnes over an - albeit unspecified - period of time.
The vision echoes a similar plan, launched on September 1, 2003, when the airport also presented its visions for an Airport Business Park comprising an intermodal cargo centre designed to integrate air, sea, rail and truck operations.
This vision soon faded, however, as the airport did not manage to gain the necessary support from partners and potential investors.
Time will soon tell if this second attempt will fare better.
