Aug 01, 2017 (newstodate): Norway is the undisputed leader among the world's salmon producing countries, with over half of the 20 largest salmon producing companies headquartered in Norway.
According to salmonbusiness.com, 11 companies have their head office in Norway, six in Chile, while the United Kingdom, the Faroe Islands and Canada have one each.
#1 on the list is Norway's Marine Harvest that slaughters almost as much fish annually as next three producers combined.
At around 200,000 tonnes in 2016, Norwegian seafood is today the single largest air cargo commodity in the North European markets, with some 30-35 percent lifted directly by air out of the country.
