Aug 08, 2017 (newstodate): Is Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific mulling plans for a return of services to Scandinavia?
Rumors have been around for years, boosted by the carrier's intake of a fleet of new Airbus A350 aircraft for traffic to the airline's 77 intercontinental destinations in 42 countries and territories on five continents, including currently 12 European destinations.
Already in 2015, CAPA said Copenhagen Airport may become one new CX-destination served with the Airbus A350, alongside other destinations including London Gatwick and Madrid, and according to the carrier's Nordic Sales Manager speaking to the Danish media Standby.dk, Copenhagen Airport may be a "candidate" for a coming new route between Hong Kong and Scandinavia.
Cathay Pacific last served Scandinavia with flights from Hong Kong to Stockholm, Sweden, from February 14, 1995, first routed via Frankfurt and later operated as direct non-stop flights from winter 1995, but the airline pulled out again after a few years.
Starting from September 10, 2015, SAS has been operating flights from Stockholm to Hong Kong with five weekly rotations using Airbus A340/330 on the route.
