Aug 31, 2017 (newstodate): Finnair is again expanding its grip on the Chinese market by introducing its seventh route to China, adding Nanjing to the network from May 13, 2018.
In the summer 2018 schedule, Finnair will thus be operating 38 weekly flights to Greater China, including daily flights to Beijing and Shanghai, four weekly flights to Chongqing and Guangzhou, three weekly flights to Nanjing and Xian, as well as 10 weekly flights to Hong Kong.
Finnair launched its first direct flight to Beijing on June 2, 1988, making Finnair the first Western European airline to have a non-stop route between Europe and China, and the carrier remains dedicated to remain a leading provider of air services between Europe and China, with Helsinki Airport as its hub and transfer point.
Already in 2015, the volume of Chinese passengers for the first time overtook the volume of Russian passengers, with the amount of Chinese passengers at Helsinki Airport up by 50 percent, y-o-y, to about 300,000.
In January 2016, Finavia was also the first European airport operator to conclude a MoU on the Establishment of a Sister Airport Relationship with Capital Airports Holding Company.
