Aug 11, 2017 (newstodate): Finnair has been online with flights to South Korea since 2008, and would like to increase frequencies in response to strong demands in the markets.
This is, however, no plain sailing. According to the existing air services agreement between Finland and South Korea, only seven weekly rotations are allowed.
CAA representatives from the two countries met on May 30, 2017, to discuss a revision of the air services agreement, with Finnair wishing to double traffic to South Korea from Helsinki by creating a new route to Busan, South Korea's second largest city and largest seaport.
No information about the outcome of the negotiation has been published, however.
As the first airline to fly non-stop to South Korea from Northern Europe, Finnair launched flights from Helsinki to Seoul on June, 2008, with five weekly rotations, adding a sixth flight from December 20, 2010, and is currently operating daily flights on the route.
