Aug 10, 2017 (newstodate): Managing the large airport infrastructure project comprising Ilulissat, Nuuk and Qaqortoq, Kalaallit Airport A/S has now selected its lead consultant - the Danish engineering and consulting group COWI.
Following a tender process, COWI is to undertake responsibility for the construction of new runways and other infrastructure at the three airports, with work starting on projecting of the 2,200m runway at Ilulissat, to be followed by projecting NUUK's 2,200m runway from October 1, 2017, and finally the 1,500m runway at Qaqortoq Airport around the turn of the year.
The project phase for each airport is estimated to last some eight months, followed by a tender for the construction works.
The completion of the runway at Qaqortoq is scheduled for November 2020, and the projects at NUUK and Ilulissat will be commissioned in 2021.
