Jul 06, 2017 (newstodate): The Icelandic/Danish charter carrier Primera Air has announced plans for launching its first flights from Latvia's Riga Airport.
During the summer 2018 season, the carrier will offer flights from Riga to Malaga, in Spain, offering one weekly rotation with Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
Iceland's Primera Travel Group set up its new subsidiary, Primera Air Nordic, in 2014, based in Latvia to benefit from the country's lower cost base in the competition against other charter carriers.
With some 100 staff at Riga, the management and control of the fleets of the two airlines Primera Air Nordic and Primera Air Scandinavia is now performed by Primera Air's Network Control Center and the Commercial Department in Latvia.
Founded in 2004 in Iceland, Primera Air initially operated charter flights for Scandinavian tour operators.
After moving headquarters from Denmark to Latvia the carrier has expanded its operations with direct seat sales and moved into the low-cost air travel segment.
