Jun 26, 2017 (newstodate): SAS Cargo is determined to build up its competencies in handling pharma shipments, going for CEIV certification of its three Scandinavian hubs in 2017.
The process is, however, running slightly behind schedule compared to earlier expectations.
-SAS Cargo, including the first hub Oslo Airport expects to be certified this summer, and the other major hubs at Copenhagen and Stockholm are to follow right after, the company says in a relase on Monday.
In March, 2017, the company said that, as a first, SAS Cargo and Spirit Air Cargo Handling were opening Oslo Airport as a fully CEIV certified station already "this month", and the process would be completed at SAS' other two Scandinavian hubs at Stockholm and Copenhagen in May-June 2017.
-The IATA CEIV certification includes procedure training of staff at all stations, an upgrade of all facilities as well as quality management, says Erling Kirkeby, SAS Cargo Head of Handling & Quality Management.
-In addition to making sure our services meet global regulations, we are launching a new pharma product, developed to offer our customers the ideal environment for handling temperature-sensitive cargo across the entire supply chain in a safe and secure manner, says Mr Kirkeby.
The new pharma product, SAS Pharma Cargo, offers an additional feature to the pharma shipment, granting the customer full transparency through SAS Cargo's active GPS monitors enabling the monitoring of temperature with alarms triggered in case of any deviations.
Oslo Airport plays a special role for SAS Cargo's perishables capacity as the carrier in 2016 transported 15,371 tonnes of Norwegian salmon, including 11,766 tonnes on flights from Copenhagen and Oslo to the USA and 2,861 tonnes from Copenhagen and Oslo to the carrier's Asian destinations.
