Jun 07, 2017 (newstodate): Mystery surrounds Russian media reports about start of sevices on a new route between Russia and Northern Norway.
According to Barents Observer, Russia's Foreignh Ministry has informed Norway's ambassador in Russia of imminent plans to open flights on a route between Tromso and Murmansk, to be operated by Orenburzhye Airlines.
There are curruently no direct flights between these two destinations, and the Norwegian aviation authority Avinor has reportedly not received any application, sources say.
The Russian carrier Nordavia offered flights on the route from 2010, the Norwegian carier Wideroe has also been operating on the route, and SAS has held concession to fly between the two destinations as well, without ever actually operating.
In the fleet of Orenburzhye Airlines are 17 L-410 aircraft serving a host of domestic routes out of its home base at Orenburg.
