Jun 02, 2017 (newstodate): With the coming opening of two new routes by Air India to Scandinavia, the Norwegian salmon air logistics may gain a further boost.
-Today, the Indian market for salmon is still comparatively small, but we are indeed seeing a significant growth potential, says Yogi Shergill, Norwegian Vice Consul and Norwegian Seafood Council Director India.
-Today, the Norwegian exports of salmon to India is primarily a frozen commodity shipped in containers to Mumbai.
-But alongside this we are today seeing an increase also in flown salmon exports, and as of now some 100 boxes are already flown from Norway on a weekly basis.
-The main destinations in India are still Mumbai and Bangalore, but importers are now assessing Delhi as a coming new alternative for the salmon imports from Norway.
-In addition to the salmon imports from Norway, fresh cod is also flown into Bangalore by airlines including Lufthansa, Emirates and Qatar Airways.
-But no doubt: fresh salmon is the future for Indian imports of Norwegian salmon, says Mr Shergill.
First to come is the opening of flights between Delhi and Stockholm, in Sweden, starting from August 15, 2017, with three weekly rotations using Boeing 787-8 aircraft.
Next on the line is the opening of flights between Delhi and Copenhagen, Denmark, from September 16, 2017, also with three weekly Boeing 787-8 rotations.
