May 02, 2017 (newstodate): Latvia is not to lose all nonstop connections to New York as Uzbekistan Airways introduces the Boeing 787-8 aircraft on the route.
Uzbekistan Airways has been using Riga Airport as a transit hub on its flights between Tashkent and New York since October 31, 2004, operating Boeing 767-300ER aircraft on two weekly rotations.
Now, starting from July 27, 2017, one of these two flights will be performed with the Boeing 787-8 aircraft as a direct non-stop flight between Tashkent and New York.
But the carrier will retain Riga as an en-route stop on the second weekly flight on Sundays, using the Boeing 767-300ER aircraft as of today.
The Latvian carrier airBaltic is code-sharing with Uzbekistan Airways on the route since May 2015.
