May 05, 2017 (newstodate): Russia's St Petersburg Pulkovo Airport is now to welcome its first foreign low-cost carrier: Wizz Air.
Starting from August 27, 2017, Wizz Air will launch flights on a new route into Pulkovo Airport from Hungary's Budapest Airport, offering two weekly rotations with Airbus A320 aircraft.
The opening of the new route will also provide the only direct air connection between Hungary and St Petersburg where Russian travelers will gain direct low-cost access to the EU with Wizz Air offering connection via Budapest to a total of 63 destinations.
Pulkovo Airport is Russia's fourth-largest airport in terms of passenger traffic.
In 2016, the airport handled 13.3 million passenger, and in Q1 2017, Pulkovo's traffic grew by 25 percent, y-o-y, to 2.9 million passengers.
