May 22, 2017 (newstodate): Days as a separate company are over for Singapore Airlines Cargo from the first half of next year.
Singapore Airlines Cargo has been a fully-owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines since July 2001 when it was split off from the mother company and set up an own management.
But the company will now be re-merged with its mother, while Singapore Airlines underlines that apart from this organizational change it will remain business as usual including the continued operation of seven Boeing 747-400 freighters as well as sales of cargo space on the airline's passenger aircraft as well as the fleets of other subsidiaries.
The change reflects the trend in the market with cargo increasingly flown by larger high-frequency passenger aircraft with correspondingly less demand for pure freighers except for off-size and other special shipments requiring nose-loading and other specialties.
Singapore Airlines Cargo staff will also be organized within the airline's coming Cargo Division.
