May 16, 2017 (newstodate): Despite earlier rumors to the contrary, Ryanair maintains its focus on Stockholm Skavsta Airport with the opening of new routes from winter 2017.
New destinations from Skavsta on Ryanair's route map will be Kiev in Ukraine, Nis in Serbia, Podgorica in Montenegro as well as Memmingen in Germany, leaving a strong East European imprint on the schedules.
Competing with Ryanair at Stockholm Skavsta Airport is Wizz Air that is also a strong provider of flights to East European destinations, currently totaling 13 routes.
Ryanair that now has four Boeing 737-800 aircraft based at the airport, entered the Swedish market in 1997 with a route from London to Stockholm Skavsta.
So far, Ryanair has however abstained from establishing traffic at Stockholm capital airport, Arlanda.
As the coming winter schedule takes effect from the end of October 2017, Ryanair will have a total of 27 routes to and from Sweden, including also flights at the airports of Gothenburg, Vasteraas and Malmo.
