May 17, 2017 (newstodate): Iran Air has now taken delivery of its first four ex-factory ATR 72-600 aircraft.
The delivery papers were signed on May 16, 2017, and the aircraft took off from Toulouse heading for Tehran via a stop at Athens, Greece.
Earlier this year, ATR and Iran Air inked a firm contract for delivery of 20 ATR 72-600 and options for a further 20.
Deliveries of the 20 firm aircraft will extend until the end of 2018.
Iran relies on a strong domestic infrastructure comprising 60 airports ideally suited for ATR operations that allow for flights in challenging environments, including small airfields, unpaved runways and mountainous regions.
