May 18, 2017 (newstodate): After a long period of rumors concerning Air India's launch of flights to Scandinavia, the carrier's choice of Stockholm over Copenhagen now seems to be finally confirmed.
According to the Swedish media DI, Sweden's Minister of Trade Ann Linde confirms that she has received an offical message that Air India is indeed to launch direct non-stop services between Delhi and Stockholm from August 15, 2017.
So far, the only further detail available is that the carrier will be offering three weekly rotations on the route.
Copenhagen Airport was long considered the carrier's prime option, but one reason behind the dropping of this alternative may be the sustained and outstanding issue between India and Denmark concerning a Danish national's role in supporting Indian rebels with arms supplies decades ago.
India has lodged a formal request for the Danish state to hand over the said national for trials in India, which has been denied by the Danish courts for uncertainty over the safety of the person in case.
