May 15, 2017 (newstodate): Lithuania's Kaunas Airport is seeing cargo volumes rising in 2017, albeit from a modest base.
During the first three months of 2017 the airport has handled a total of 676 tonnes of cargo which is an increase by 34 percent, y-o-y.
And Q1, 2016, was also marked by a rebound by 14.75 percent over the preceding year, making the results in 2017 the more remarkable.
June 2015 saw the launch of Aerohub KUN - a long-term project to establish Kaunas Airport as a center for aviation-related industries as well as a logistics hub in Lithuania serving the Baltic, Russian and E European markets.
Efforts driven by companies including the Lithuanian forwarding and logistics company Hoptrans have been made to set up a freighter service between destinations in the Far East and Kaunas Airport - but so far with only temporary success.
