May 19, 2017 (newstodate): The new commercial aircraft Bombardier CS300 has made its first call at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport.
As the world's first airline to introduce the CS300 in commercial service, Lavia's airBaltic performed the first CS300 flight to Moscow on May 18, 2017, and was duly celebrated at an official event.
airBaltic has been operating flights from Riga to Moscow since 1998, starting out with four weekly Riga-Moscow Sheremetyevo flights using Fokker 50 during the first year of operations.
Having earlier served all three airports in Moscow, airBaltic consolidated all Moscow operations at Sheremetyevo Airport in 2016, resulting in a 100 percent rise in passenger traffic, compared to 2015.
The first four months of 2017 have showed a further increase of traffic by 25 percent, y-o-y, and the airline now operates 24 weekly flights on the route.
By the end of 2017, airBaltic plans to have been performing 1,200 flights to Sheremetyevo Airport carrying 220,000 passengers during the year.
