Apr 28, 2017 (newstodate): After a prolonged delay, Iran Air is now preparing to take delivery of its first four of a total of 20 ATR72-600 aircraft ordered.
The aircraft are expected to land in Tehran within the coming few weeks, another five other aircraft will be delivered throughout the year and the remaining eleven aircraft will arrive in Iran during 2018.
In addition to the 20 aircraft on firm orders, Iran Air holds options for a further 20 aircraft.
The deal between ATR and Iran was long in a limbo as the engine manufacturer, P&W consistently refused to undertake the responsibility for maintenance and spare parts provisions of the engines.
The deal finally got underway as ATR accepted to shoulder these responsibilities itself as a direct supplier to Iran Air, Iranian media report.
