Apr 04, 2017 (newstodate): Air India seems still to have the opening of flights to Copenhagen, Denmark, on the agenda.
While news and rumors have been widely circulated despite little substantial confirmation, the Indian paper Financial Express now quotes Air India's managing director, Ashwani Lohani on the subject in connection with news on the carrier's imminent lease of seven longer-range Boeing 787-900 aircraft on top of its current fleet of 23 Boeing 787-800 aircraft.
-The Air India CMD ... said that flight services to the Danish capital Copenhagen are now likely to start from August instead of May 2017, the Financial Express quote reads.
It thus seems that Stockholm Arlanda Airport has lost the competition for the much-coveted route.
On October 23, 2016, India's ambassador to Denmark, speaking to Danish tour operators and travel press on the occasion of a workshop in Copenhagen, also said that Air India is considering plans for opening flights between India and Denmark from Spring 2017.
And on June 30, 2016, hopes for Air India to start flights to Copenhagen were fueled as the Chairman revealed that plans were being drawn up to launch a Delhi-Madrid and a Delhi-Copenhagen service, with the introduction of Boeing 787 aircraft later in 2016.
