Mar 02, 2017 (newstodate): The UK/Swedish regional freighter company West Atlantic is building up its fleet of Boeing 737 freighters to serve under the contract with Royal Mail.
The five-year contract was awarded in October 2016 and calls for West Atlantic to operate a total of nine Boeing 737 freighters and three British Aerospace ATP aircraft to provide flights on Royal Mail's postal air services.
The services were commenced on January 13, 2017, and will be fully implemented during the first quarter of this year.
West Atlantic is thus in the market for adding an extra four Boeing 737-400SF aircraft after having already taken in two new aircraft during the last months of 2016.
The remaining four freighters will be added to the fleet over the coming five months, according to the company's Interim Report 2016.
The carrier is also to grow its fleet of currently two CRJ200PF and three Boeing 767-200PF fleet, as well as seeking ways to optimize the utilization of its fleet of 40 ATP freighters, of which only 24 are actually in service.
- While we expect to operate in the eight tonnes market for many years to come, we will during 2017 evaluate the commercial shift that has taken place in this payload range and the effect it will have on the future earnings potential of the ATP fleet and the future need for assets associated with this fleet, the report says.
