Mar 08, 2017 (newstodate): Russia's aircraft manufacturing capabilities lag far behind their western competitors' - and the government's wishes..
Russia is currently producing only about 30 new commercial aircraft per year, corresponding to only five percent of the combined annual output from Boeing and Airbus.
Western manufacturers are thus providing about 80 percent of the domestic demand for commercial aircraft.
At the same time, Russia will need 1,700-2,000 new commercial aircraft until 2035, according to the Aviation Board under the Russian government.
