Mar 08, 2017 (newstodate): Commissioning a new state-of-the-art cargo terminal is a highly complex affair, as most airlines may easily agree. And Finnair Cargo will be no exception..
Originally slated for spring 2017, the opening of the company's new cargo terminal at Helsinki Airport has now been silently rescheduled for "autumn 2017".
-Yes, the opening of the new terminal was postponed until after summer 2017 to ensure we have sufficient time to complete all the necessary preparations before the move, says Milla Nyholm, Finnair Cargo Marketing Manager.
-IT-wise, there are numerous extensive tests to ensure the various systems are working seamlessly together. The first major test phase, site acceptance test for the warehouse automation systems, is currently underway and our test teams are busy evaluating the new equipment and their functionalities.
-In addition to all testing we need to define the new ways of working to make the most out of the new terminals capabilities, and finally we need to plan the migration carefully and train all our staff prior to their move to the new facility, says Ms Nyholm.
Finnair Cargo launched the implementation of its new CMS system SkyChain on December 1, 2016 - but not without difficulties and teething troubles that caused severe snags in the pre-Christmas peak production and a drastic fall in cargo volumes during the first period.
