Mar 24, 2017 (newstodate): When DHL starts freighter seafood flights from Lakselv to Oslo in April, 2017, a new-built dedicated terminal is already in place to handling of the shipments.
Built by the Norwegian haulier and logistics provider Miniekspress, the terminal was commissioned in December 2016, offering temperature-controlled cooling of shipments and interfacing airside/landside with two gates on each side allowing for fast flow of exports.
-We are currently to construct a direct lane from the terminal to the aircraft parking stand in a project together with Avinor, and this will be settled at a meeting on April 4, 2017, between Miniekspress, Avinor and DHL, says Kjell Skatvedt, Miniekspress CEO and owner.
-Our terminal is fully neutral and ready to cooperate with any party setting up business at Lakselv Airport. Hopes are of course that the coming new DHL freighter operation will attract other operators eyeing the rich business opportunities around Norway's booming seafood exports.
-We did see direct flights from Lakselv to South Korea in 2016, but they were unfortunately stopped again due to issues from the air services agreement with Russia.
-But at least it has been proved that Lakselv Airport is fully capable of handling long-haul freighter flights as well, says Mr Skatvedt.
