Mar 23, 2017 (newstodate): Moldova's Chisinau Airport is in need of a major redevelopment of its existing single runway - and a solution has now been found allowing for unrestricted operations during the process.
The current taxiway will be built into a new 2,400m runway, and when construction works are completed by May 2018, the current 3,590m runway will next undergo a major reconstruction, leaving the airport with two operational runways.
Construction work has already started, supported by the German company Strabag and partly relying on EBRD financing.
Since 2013, the Russian-owned investment company Avia Invest has been managing the airport after winning a tender for the airport for a 49 year period.
