Mar 28, 2017 (newstodate): Russia goes all-in when it comes to promoting the country through international sports events, with the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia as no exception.
One example is the construction of a new green-field airport at Rostov-on-Don - the first such project in the country's post-Soviet history.
The construction of the new international airport named Rostov Platov Airport will replace the existing Rostov-on-Don Airport, which will be decommissioned by the commissioning of the new airport scheduled for December 1, 2017.
All facilities will, however, by completed by July 2017 in order to leave time for tests and training purposes.
Construction works started in 2014, and the new Class B airport will feature a single terminal and a 3,600m runway, and will be designed to accommodate up to five million passengers a year.
The coming new airport will become the home base for a new regional carrier being set up, Azimuth Airlines that will have four Superjet 100 aircraft from the start, growing to a fleet of 12 aircraft within two years.
