Mar 22, 2017 (newstodate): Is Air China preparing for launch of services between Beijing and Oslo, in Norway?
The route opening has long been rumored and gained fresh impetus after Norway and China came to terms again in Autumn 2016 after years with relations in the freezer following the award of the Nobel Peace Price to a Chinese dissident in 2010.
On December 29, 2016, the two countries issued a joint press release exposing Norway's ceremonial bow to Chinese requirements for respect and sovereignty while paving the road for resumption of trade and other activities.
As part of this, sources claim that an agreement will be signed in April 2017 for launch of direct air services by a Chinese carrier, probably Air China, between Beijing and Oslo.
Any cargo space on the planned flights will be easily filled by Norway's seafood exporters that expect volumes to grow again to some 70,000 tonnes per year in 2020.
Dedicated Chinese freighter service would therefore also be expected to take a slice of market.
