Mar 27, 2017 (newstodate): Star Alliance member Ethiopian Airlines is today performing its first landing at Oslo Gardermoen Airport.
As from now, Ethiopian Airlines will be offering five weekly rotations between Addis Ababa and Oslo with Boeing 787-8 aircraft, providing the first direct air link from Oslo to Africa via Stockholm that has been served since October 28, 2003.
At Oslo Gardermoen Airport, the carrier will be handled by SAS Ground Handling and Spirit Air Cargo Handling, while cargo sales are in the hands of Kales Airline Services.
-We are actually already serving Ethiopian Airlines as an off-line airline customer in Norway in cooperation with the flights at Stockholm, but it is of course a thrill to welcome the carrier as an on-line service in the market, says May Korsell, Kales Airline Services Managing Director Norway.
-We already have customer requests for cargo in Ethiopian Airlines to Addis Abeba, Cape Town and Johannesburg, and while seafood exports are of course always attractive I expect that the demand for this carrier's cargo services will rather be from the oil & gas industries and other segments. Also because the cargo capacity of the Boeing 787-8 aircraft will allow only one seafood pallet which is of limited importance in the Norwegian seafood exports market.
-We will share the cargo capacity on the flights with Sweden, and while the exact allotments have still not be finalized I would expect this to land around 50/50 between the two markets.
-First of all, we are excited to have this new capacity to sell in Norway's air cargo market. And Ethiopian Airlines' transfer facilities at Addis Abeba are fully up to the strictest standards, providing access to a network comprising among other some 400 destinations across the African continent, says Ms Korsell.
