Feb 01, 2017 (newstodate): Ukraine is eager to develop its transit potential for handling of e-trade shipments between China and Europe.
To boost the process, Ukraine International Airlines and Ukrposhta, Ukraine's national post operator, have introduced a joint solution to carry and handle international mail and other postal items processed via Kiev Boryspil International Airport.
The new technological solution allows to further developing transit postal carriage operations via Ukraine.
The parties commenced implementing the project in November 2016 when the relevant agreement was concluded.
Under the agreement, over 50 tonnes of postal parcels have been delivered from China via Kiev Boryspil International Airport to Latvia, Lithuania, Armenia, Cyprus, and Israel.
In January 2017, transit postal carriage operations from Czech Republic to China were commenced, and in February 2017, UIA will start carrying transit mail from Switzerland to the CIS countries.
The partied now expect that UIA will carry over 100 tonnes of transit mail in 2017.
UIA currently carries 65 percent of all international mail from Ukraine, and the airline is now lifting international mail shipments to 25 markets including notably the USA, Kazakhstan, Israel, and Great Britain.
In 2016, UIA carried a total of 1,116 tonnes of mail, up 15.5 percent, y-o-y.
