Feb 08, 2017 (newstodate): Since June 9, 2016, Iran's second-largest airline Mahan Air has been online at Copenhagen Airport with initially two weekly Airbus A340 rotations on the route from Tehran.
The carrier is confident of the success of the route and has aired plans for adding a third rotation in summer 2017.
Dark clouds are, however, hovering over Mahan Air that has long been suspected by the US government of having been involved in arms transportation to groups in Syria.
With the new presidency, the turbulence may be further trumped-up in the form of a proposed Terror-Free Skies Act that, if passed by the Congress, may place Mahan Air on a list of carriers to face a ban on operations and cooperation.
According to the proposed law, direct of even indirect providers of services to carriers on the list will also face severe restrictions and punishments which could hit at airports and handling agents.
