Feb 14, 2017 (newstodate): Counted together, the three major Swedish airports managed by Swedavia experienced a solid growth in cargo volumes in 2016.
A total of 256,071 tonnes was handled at Stockholm Arlanda, Gothenburg and Malmo Airport, an increase by 9.4 percent, y-o-y.
The increase in volumes was most significant at the Swedish capital airport that saw its volumes up by 12.5 percent to 166,123 tonnes, while volumes at Gothenburg Airport were up by 7.2 percent, to a total of 61,177 tonnes.
Negative growth was however marked at Malmo Airport that was down in volumes to 28,771 tonnes, a drop by 1.9 percent, y-o-y.
-New routes and increased frequencies on existing routes at Stockholm Arlanda Airport have been favorably received by the airfreight industry, and Gothenburg Airport has seen an increase in the volume of ad-hoc freighter operations especially during autumn 2016, says Ylva Arvidsson, Swedavia Director Cargo.
The drop in volumes at Malmo Airport is due primarily to the decision by AirBridgeCargo to move its twice-weekly freighter operation since 2014 to Oslo Gardermoen Airport from November 15, 2016.
