Feb 28, 2017 (newstodate): As its Bombardier CS300 aircraft fleet is growing from today's two to eight by the end of 2017 and a total of so far 20 units by the end of 2019, the Latvian carrier airBaltic is mulling plans for expanding its aircraft maintenance services.
Speaking to MRO-network, the carrier's VP Communications Janis Vanags airs the possibility of establishing a CS aircraft maintenance center at Riga Airport as part of its existing maintenance facilities that today comprises hangar facilities to perform line maintenance including A checks, component changes, and engine and propeller changes.
The airline is today serving only own aircraft as well as providing AOG and ad-hoc services for other carriers at Riga Airport, but future plans may comprise construction of new hangars to provide facilities for CS300 C-checks on own and other operators' aircraft.
-We are currently evaluating new hangar facilities in Riga to do that, and we plan to have them built in the coming years, Mr Vanags says.
airBaltic is the first and so far only operator of the Bombardier CS300 aircraft and might find Bombardier a partner to the business case of establishing Riga as a European maintenance and support center for the aircraft type.
