Feb 27, 2017 (newstodate): Germany's Frankfurt Hahn Airport has now at long last secured a future with new owners.
The salvation is provided by Chinese investments as the Chinese conglomerate HNA is now confirmed as new owner under a deal to be firmed up on March 1, 2017, according to a German industry media.
After that date, a few more months will be needed to finalize paper work, documents exchange and final approval by pertinent EU authorities, which should all be purely formal procedures.
The HNA Group will thus take 82.5 percent of the stake in the airport, with the remaining shares still held by the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate that may, however, most probably divest of this stake as well.
After the finalization of the take-over, Yangtze River Express, part of the HNA Group, is expected to return freighter services to Hahn Airport, and also passenger flights between China and Germany may be set up in the near future.
Earlier, Qatar Airways Cargo left Frankfurt Hahn in favor of Frankfurt Airport from October 27, 2013, Aeroflot Cargo stopped its freighter operations from July 2013, Air Cargo Germany went bust by mid-April 2013, and Etihad Crystal Cargo also left Frankfurt Hahn Airport in favor of Frankfurt Airport from the start of 2013.
