Feb 15, 2017 (newstodate): Norway is soon to see the launch of services by the new domestic carrier, FlyViking.
On February 14, 2017, the carrier was awarded its AOC and Commercial License, clearing it for start of commercial passenger and cargo services with aircraft above 10 tonnes and more than 20 passengers.
While the new carrier was expected to start out with servicing smaller airports with short runways, the license now applies to operations at larger airports only and operating on smaller airports with short runways will require an additional license.
Owned and managed by a former Wideroe pilot, Ola Giaver, FlyViking will be operating a fleet of Bombardier Dash-8-100 aircraft, the first two of which are already at hand.
According to the Norwegian media Nordlys, Mr Giaver plans to lease up to 19 aircraft, with the first 10 to be delivered on a leasing contract with the Canadian company Avmax, Canada, over the coming two years.
