Feb 14, 2017 (newstodate): While plans for the future of Greenland's Kangerlussuaq Airport remain unsettled, the airport has at least a new man in the Airport Manager's seat.
Starting from March 1, 2017, Peter Henrik Hoegh will take over this position after years with the Danish carrier Air Alsie and has earlier held positions in Greenland with Greenlandair, now named Air Greenland, as station manager.
Kangerlussuaq Airport is the largest airport in Greenland with the bulk of the Transatlantic flights, but is today not part of the new state-owned company Kalaallit Airport A/S, Greenland Airports, that has been established to materialize plans for a new airports infrastructure in Greenland.
To secure the future of Kangerlussuaq in the longer term will require massive maintenance and reconstruction works on the airport's runway that is impacted by changes in the permafrost conditions.
